Tribute to a great man
This project was a labor of love and the realization of an idea I've had rolling around in my head for a long time.
DESIGN
Design-wise, eye-line was an important concept. The eyes in the large photo lead the viewer to the right page, to the "end" in almost a contemplative way.
ALIGNMENT: The continuation of the clapboard siding give the spread a worn feel while aligning with the vertical edges of the canvas. The siding also gives REPETITION throughout the project. Body font is left justified, mirroring the wood siding. PROXIMITY is expressed with the main title and sub-title placement, reinforcing the relationship of these two items.
PHOTOSHOP
Main image was adapted to a smart object to allow for non-pixelated size adjustments. The spot healing tool was used to remove an oxygen hose from face, neck, shirt, and pants area. Clone stamp was used to continue siding throughout the text area. Drop shadows on the smaller images help them pop off the siding. A new font was added that expressed the western feel of the article. This was contrasted with a Times-Roman font for ease of reading in the body of the article.

This poster is designed as an invitation. To give the feel of mystery, several concepts were used. Castle: A mask was created to show only the focal point (castle) of the picture. The image was desaturated with a camera raw filter and the brightness was enhanced. Mask: The mask image was desaturated as well and treated to a slight blur. Text: Text was carefully selected to match the tone and feel, of the poster. The text was then given an outer glow to give it a misty quality. Alignment of the text was carefully designed to create an "S" of movement throughout the message, guiding the eye along the curve to view the full message. Instead of aligning to the image borders, in both the top and bottom sections, the text wraps a vague outline of the castle and mask. A gradient was added for just a touch of difference from top to bottom. Photo credits: Castle-wikepedia.com, Mask-T.haderlie A |
