"A little simplification would be the first step toward rational living."  ~Eleanor Roosevelt
I have been an academic advisor in The Department of Psychology at Utah State University ever since my advisor asked me to come work for her many years ago. A plaque still hangs in my office that outlines several points of my own advising code.
  • Students are the most important people on the campus.
  • Students are the purpose and focus of our work.
  • Students are the core of our business.
  • Students are flesh and blood human beings with feelings and emotions like our own.
  • Students are deserving of the finest advising and teaching we can offer.
  • Students are the lifeblood of this and every university.
My advising philosophy is quite simple: Students Matter. With that in mind, I strive to improve my skills and performance daily in order to provide the best advising service I can. Many students are away from home and lonely or alone in their crowd. When I call them by name, they know they mattered to someone that day. That matters to me as much as our academic discussions. Direct, organized communication serves all of the individuals I work with.
