Morphing Animals
Meet the birds. Both of these photos were taken at the Bear River Bird Refuge by me. Although impressive in their natural state, I couldn't help but wonder what their children might look like...
Enter the new bird. Keeping the beautiful plumage of the stork, yet adding the color and vibrance of the songbird. Meet the combination. To achieve this look, I used Photoshop to erase the not so attractive stork head (clone stamp) and add in the beautiful yellow head (quick selection tool, mask, etc.). Then came the hard part, choosing the right yellow from the head for the rest of the body (select & color layer). I cleaned up a few little areas with select and mask, to keep the fine shape of the feathers.
Contrast. Colors used make a nice contrast to the background.
Repetition. Cloning the grass where the stork head was removed gives consistency and repetition of the design.

Due to the original placement of the bird in the water, I chose to leave the focal point near the center of the project.

I'd like to say that I just found this three-headed guy wandering at the bird refuge, but no, he is also enhanced with Photoshop. I used the quick select and added in two additional heads. Then, using transform, I adjusted the rotation, skew, perspective and warp to adjust the head and neck position to the desired effect.
